Light Novel Chapter 24 - Withered trees

Also referred to as a "Rotting Beast."[1]

A plant type demonic creature that is created by the the Golden Demon Tree in the Zevail Mountain Pathway. The Rotten Beasts are formed from plants and take on a human-like shape covered in thorns. They have fairly low intelligence and simple act as scouts for the Golden Demon Tree, attacking any living creatures that wander into its territory. They are naturally weak to fire, but are highly drawn to light and will quickly surround and overwhelm others with their large numbers. The most common version are called "Young Rotting Beasts."[1]

Despite their human shape, they often run on all fours, resembling a wild beast. They make physical attacks with "claws" formed out of branches and thorns, inflicting their victim with a paralyzing poison.[2] They use phototaxis receptors, sounds and mana ripples to sense their surroundings, so there was no difference to them be it day or night.[3]

This leader among the Rotten Beasts has directly received some of the Golden Demon Tree's blood, causing it to evolve. One of the most dangerous things about an Elite Rotten Beast is its high Agility, making it far more difficult to escape then the normal ones.[5] It also has a much larger size, allowing its claws have a 3 meter (9.8 feet) range, and a strength that only Berserkers or Dwarven Steel Guards where able to match.[6]

With the aid of the Ring of the Wind Empress, Brendel was able to defeated an Elite Rotten beast and acquired a Soul Gem.[6]
